The field of psychology is very applicable to breast cancer for many reasons. One of which is most obvious is depression. According to the National Cancer Institute depression affects 15%-25% of all cancer patients and this is equal in men and women. However, it is very known that being depressed while having cancer is normal having that feeling of helplessness and the never ending idea of death is overwhelming but normal in cancer patients. Another psychological concept cancer patients feel is anxiety and fear again the idea of dying is a cause for distress when fighting cancer.
